Prepping on a Budget - Affordable Items for Preppers - Emergency Water Storage

When you have limited funds to prep with, the only way to manage is by looking for specials that will save you money. The first thing you should look for is simple and affordable water storage. Water is something you can?t live without and is one of the first things needed if you experience an unexpected event. Unfortunately, the savings are often hidden and you may not realize there is a bargain right in front of you. Here?s a cheap and inexpensive way to have emergency water storage that is both portable and affordable.
The first thing you will need to get is a manual pump for one of those portable water bottles. These cost about $10 at your local Walmart.? They give you a hint on the outside of the package about discount savings without actually telling you. The discount happens to be a $5 coupon off your next purchase of a bottle of water. Using the coupon, the bottle of water (5 gallon size) which normally costs about $11.50 will now only cost you $6.50.
When you add your total cost, you will have only spent $16.50 for a manual pump and five gallons of emergency water storage. The pump also works even if you don?t have power. The water bottles also have a built in handle for portability. A five gallon bottle of water will weigh in excess of forty pounds but is still a manageable weight for most people. The five gallons should be enough water for two people for almost 72 hours. To increase your emergency water storage, just purchase an additional bottle of water later when your budget permits. This type of setup is ideal for preppers who have limited space. Emergency water storage that?s portable for less than $20...now that?s a bargain. Staying above the emergency water storage line!

Oh, the places you won't go! World's 25 least-visited countries

Using UN statistics, travel writer?Gunnar Garfors found that top contenders for the least-visited award are often dangerous or remote. But some are just plain boring.

By Ryan Lenora Brown,?Correspondent / March 29, 2013

Somali men look out across Mogadishu's fishing harbor in the early morning as fishermen land their catch and transport their fish to the market in the Xamar Weyne district of the Somali capital, March 16. Somalia is the second-least visited country in the world, according to a recent list compiled by travel writer Gunnar Garfors from UN statistics.

But how many of those same adventurous travelers would be willing to visit, say, Somalia?

About 500, it turns out.

At least, that?s how many tourists found their way to the wartorn east African nation last year. ?

That makes Somalia the second-least visited country in the world, after the tiny pacific island nation Nauru, according to a recent list compiled by travel writer Gunnar Garfors from UN statistics.?

Little Nauru ? 8.1 square miles in size, population 9,378 ? got just 200 visitors last year, and it?s pretty clear why.

?There is almost nothing to see there,? writes Mr. Garfors, ?as most of the island ? is a large open phosphate mine.??

Indeed, most of the world?s least visited countries seem to fall in one of two categories. There are the Naurus, where you?ll puzzle over what to do, and the Somalias, where it?s simply too dangerous to do much of anything at all. (As Somalia?s Wikitravel page aptly notes, ?the easiest method for staying safe in Somalia is not to go in the first place.?)?

Most of the ?nothing to do? countries are the crumbs that dust a map of the Pacific Ocean: the Federated States of Micronesia, the Solomon Islands, Kiribati, and Tuvalu. The latter shares with the Maldives the dubious distinction of having "highest elevation points" that are the lowest on earth ? 15 feet above sea level. Visit while you can, as rising sea levels could make the island uninhabitable within a century.

As for the ?too dangerous? countries, the list reads like a global primer in political conflict. For instance, despite its pristine national parks full of wild gorillas and elephants, the perpetually ungovernable Central African Republic (#23) is an unpopular destination for tourists. And its stock will likely continue to plummet ? last week a rebel alliance seized the capital, Bangui, and the president fled to neighboring Cameroon. (For more on the tempestuous politics of the CAR, read about the rebel alliance that took power there Sunday)

Afghanistan (#10) also suffers from tourism-deflating instability, which keeps visitors away from its rugged peaks, ancient Buddhist monuments, and Islamic holy sites, including the 12th-century Minaret of Jam, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

?The Taliban have a message for foreign tourists who come to Afghanistan, especially if they are from any of the 50 countries that are part of the NATO-led coalition supporting the government: Big mistake,? writes The New York Times.

Other countries on the list, like Guinea Bissau (#14), Libya (#15), and East Timor (#18), have seen their reputations ? and infrastructure ? hobbled by recent wars or uprisings.

But not every country on the list is too dangerous or boring to visit. A few are simply effectively sealed off to the outside world.

All foreign visitors to North Korea (#16) are limited to a state-curated itinerary and must have an official government ?minder? by their side at all times. But for the few Western tourists who venture into the country, that?s part of the appeal. ?You will rarely get to see propaganda done more explicitly,? Garfors writes.

Except, perhaps, in Turkmenistan (#7), where visitors who brave the onerous Soviet-esque visa application process were, at least until 2010, rewarded with sites like a 50-ft. golden statue of former dictator Saparmurat Niyazov in the capital Ashgabat, which rotated throughout the course of the day to face the sun. But the country?s most indisputably impressive site is a massive flaming crater deep in the Karakum Desert. Measuring 230 feet across and almost 70 feet deep, the so-called ?Door to Hell? has been burning continuously since Soviet scientists lit it on fire in 1971. ?

Obscure? Yes. But that's part of the charm.

C. African Republic coup leader adds to his roles

BANGUI, Central African Republic (AP) ? Central African Republic's coup leader further solidified his hold on the government Monday after announcing that he will serve as both president and defense minister, while other top posts are going to his fellow rebels.

Michel Djotodia, who led the thousands of rebel fighters who overthrew longtime President Francois Bozize just over a week ago, made the announcement in a decree read late Sunday on state radio.

Not only will Djotodia hold the defense ministry, but his allies also will control the ministries of mines, commerce, communication, and security and public order, according to a decree issued on letterhead that reads "presidency of the republic."

Opposition leader Nicolas Tiangaye remains as prime minister in the new government.

Alex Vines, head of the Africa program at Chatham House, a London-based institute on international affairs, has described the coup as being about "blind ambition" despite the rebels' claims they are seeking greater assistance for their homeland in the deeply impoverished northeast. The rebel alliance that overthrew the government was called Seleka.

"All the accounts of Seleka are that they have no development vision for CAR. It's exclusively about redistribution of patrimony from having captured the state," Vines said.

"There is so little other activity ? capturing the state is sort of the main source of revenue," he said.

Thousands of Djotodia's rebels are now residing in the capital, and could be seen Monday riding on pickup trucks that were sponge-painted brown and black in a kind of homemade camouflage with "Seleka" scrawled across the sides.

Others camped out on cots inside the state-run radio and television buildings, and some sat beside a drained swimming pool at the luxury hotel that Djotodia has transformed into his presidential palace.

Some are identifiable by the head turbans they wear, though others have taken to wearing clothes they took from the Central African army soldiers who fled in the face of the rebel advance.

Djotodia, who first rose to prominence as a rebel leader back in 2006, already had served as defense minister since the formation of an ill-fated national unity government in January.

That agreement had been backed by regional mediators trying to avert a crisis in the country long wracked by coups and rebellions, and was to allow Bozize to remain in office until 2016.

However, the rebels known as Seleka soon accused Bozize of failing to deliver on his promises and ousted him during fierce fighting that also left 13 South African soldiers dead.

Bozize and his family have taken refuge in neighboring Cameroon and are now seeking exile in the tiny West African nation of Benin.

In South Africa on Monday, an opposition party presented an urgent parliamentary resolution in a bid to force President Jacob Zuma to withdraw troops from Central African Republic.

Democratic Alliance leader Helen Zille's announcement comes amid increasingly angry debate over why the soldiers were deployed and allegations they were sent to protect mining interests of South Africa's governing African National Congress. The ANC denies it has any business in the country rich in diamonds, uranium and oil.

There are even suggestions Zuma should be impeached for allegedly misleading parliament about the foreign military mission.

Thirteen South African soldiers were killed in fighting after rebels moved into the capital, Bangui, on March 23 and eventually overthrew the government. President Francois Bozize fled the country. Zuma has said the soldiers were training troops in Central African Republic.

Want Help With Internet Promotion? Try These Ideas

Posted on April 1, 2013 by Web Design Team in Blog

Some business ventures will go on to become gigantic like Wal-Mart, while others remain little mom-n-pop shops. However, some small businesses simply fade away. Many online businesses have been known to fail. The following article will give you some helpful marketing tips, so that you can avoid the pitfalls of starting a business on the Internet.

Decide what you want your website to accomplish, and keep your focus on that goal. Decide which article directory you wish to write for, and choose the type of articles you will create. Different directories have different article requirements, such as having longer or shorter entries and heavy or light content. Keep a list of the various guidelines that you can refer to before writing.

Split Test

Before you set out to get your website ranked, you should concentrate on building a quality site. This needs to be the beginning step for anyone who is creating an online business. Try to make your website as functional and streamlined as possible. If you do this at the beginning, you will have an easier time making changes to it in the future.

NOTE! Sending a press release out is an excellent way to generate traffic when marketing your site. If you can write clear, crisp and informative press releases, there are many sources available online that will publish you and release your material to certain niche markets.

Boosting the amount of subscribers you have will help you make more money. A split test can help you determine which methods earn you more subscribers. A split test is when you show one version of your site to one group of people, and another version of your site to other people. This helps to find out what works and what doesn?t in each version of the website.

If you happen to be an excellent writer, then send some of your work about your business to other websites and magazines. Be sure to include all important information about your business in the articles. Try to speak to the editors and offer them freebies or affiliate commissions as an incentive to publish your articles.

Giving yourself a title will show your importance. If it is your company, you should be titled as CEO. If you are not the owner, you can still adopt an impressive title. Sign your articles and emails with your name and your title.

Evaluate your website on a regular basis by asking for constructive feedback. This is often critical in determining your success, as how you perceive things is not always the same as how others see them. Gain feedback from possible customers, family members and friends. Consider the advice they offer you, and use it to tweak your website.

NOTE! For business or personal correspondence, always place your own signature at the end of emails. Similar to the way that a standard printed business card works in the physical world, your signature should be prominent and used frequently.

A blog will attract more traffic to your site. It?s crucial to have up-to-date content on your site at all times. When people find new information on each visit to your site, they?ll keep coming back.

An upside to an online business failing is that could open up the path for you. Use the tips here to make yourself a winner.

OK, we?re virtually finished for now?

All things being equal, I?ll add some more online marketing tips for you at some stage tomorrow. If anything is not clear, leave your thoughts in the large field below and I?ll come up with ideas on what can be done to help you out.

Bye for now and chat to you real soon.

Create a Modern Concrete Stool for $5

Create a Modern Concrete Stool for $5Create a Modern Concrete Stool for $5 You don't have to break the bank to furnish an in-home bar. It's easy to create some great looking stools with just a few dollars worth of materials.

You can check out the video above for the full walkthrough, but essentially you're just putting a few inches of wet concrete in a bucket for the stool's seat, then sticking in some thick wooden dowel rods for the legs. Once the concrete sets, you can pull it out of the bucket and smooth it down for a modern, industrial-style stool. The stool shown in the video is pretty short, but you could easily just cut the dowels longer if you need a proper barstool. If you don't have a bar at home, this would also look right at home at a workbench in your garage.

Okla. HIV Scare: 'Who Can You Trust?'

Among the 7,000 patients who may have been exposed to HIV and Hepatitis in an Oklahoma dentist's office are children, as their nervous parents wait to get them tested and grapple with how to explain the public health nightmare.

Deann Zavala took her four children to Dr. Wayne Scott Harrington, an oral surgeon who practices in Tulsa and Owasso. She said her youngest daughter had a tooth extracted.

"How do you look at her and be like, 'You could have AIDS?'" she told ABC News Radio.

The state dental board is offering free testing to Harrington's patients after a 17-count complaint revealed his allegedly poor sterilization practices could have put them at risk for contracting HIV, hepatitis C, and hepatitis B.

Patients received a letter from the Tulsa Health Department on Friday informing them of an inquiry into Harrington's practice and advising them to get screened.

Zavala, who said she trusted Harrington to care for her four children, was left shaken.

"If you can't trust a doctor and a dentist and ... the people that are supposed to do right by you ... who can you trust?" she said.

The dentist's alleged practices came to light after a patient who had no known risk factors other than receiving dental treatment in Harrington's office, tested positive for both HIV and hepatitis C.

"I could not believe it because I had just been there Feb. 28," Linda Grimm, a patient of Harrington's, told ABC News' Tulsa affiliate KTUL. "My worry now is my health issues that may develop."

Dentist Allegedly Exposed Patients to HIV, Hepatitis Watch Video Baby Born With HIV 'Functionally Cured,' Doctors Say Watch Video Thousands of Oklahoma Dental Patients Possibly Infected With HIV, Hepatitis Watch Video

After hearing about the infected patient on March 15, the Oklahoma Board of Dentistry conducted a surprise investigation of the dentist's practice on March 18, allegedly finding numerous sterilization and cross-contamination issues.

Investigators found two different sets of instruments -- one set for patients known to have infectious diseases, and another set for patients who were not believed to have infectious diseases.

Investigators also found that the autoclave, the machine designed to sterilize dental instruments meant to be tested each month, hadn't been checked in six years.

"We were just physically kind of sick," said Susan Rodgers, president of the Oklahoma Board of Dentistry. "The instruments that came out of the autoclave were horrible. I wouldn't let my nephews play with them out in the dirt." '

Harrington, who has been practicing for more than 30 years, may face criminal charges. The dentist voluntarily surrendered his state dental license and other permits, and a formal hearing before the dentistry board is scheduled for April 19.

ABC News' Phoenix affiliate KNXV went to a home believed to be owned by Harrington in Carefree, Ariz. on Friday. A man believed to be Harrington declined to comment, and slammed the door.

Harrington and his staff told investigators that he treated a "high population of known infectious disease carrier patients," according to a 17-count complaint filed by the Oklahoma Board of Dentistry.

Drug cabinets were unlocked and unsupervised during the day, and Harrington did not keep an inventory log of drugs, some of which were controlled substances, according to the complaint. One drug vial expired in 1993.

"During the inspections, Dr. Harrington referred to his staff regarding all sterilization and drug procedures in his office," the complaint read. "He advised, 'They take care of that. I don't.'"

Harrington allegedly re-used needles, contaminating drugs with potentially harmful bacteria and trace amounts of other drugs, according to the complaint. Although patient-specific drug records indicated that they were using morphine in 2012, no morphine had been ordered since 2009.

Rodgers called the incident a "perfect storm."

ABC News' Sydney Lupkin and Katie Moisse contributed to this report.
